Default SmartGo for iPhone (Beta)

I'm happy to announce that SmartGo is soon coming to the iPhone and iPod touch. It's currently in beta-testing, and you'll see me and some others using it at the US Go Congress.

In its first version, SmartGo touch will focus on three areas that help you study Go on the go:
- Replay professional games (with more than 5000 professional games).
- Solve problems (more than 2000 Go problems).
- Record and annotate your own games.

I'm looking for a few more beta-testers. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch and you're going to be at the Go Congress in Portland, please let me know today (send mail to support@smartgo.com).

Hope to see many of you in Portland!

Default SmartGo for iPod-'killers'?

Hello Anders,

that's great news to hear from you - it might increase further our common addiction though
(while I'm still denying my kids (7, 9) their own PSP, gameboy, Xbox etc.;
still my wife and I hand out our telephones quite often to them,
but we were wise not to install additional games onto them - still we have very happy children)

Back to your topic:
could you configure & install SmartGo for 'iPod killers' (HTC a.o.)? Greetings !

Recent changes in the architecture of SmartGo make it easier to port it to new platforms, but it's still a lot of work to create a new UI for a different SDK. So sorry, no plans for other mobile devices at this point.

dude !

if you're making it work on the iPhone and iPod, does that mean it'll soon be available for Mac OSX?

Rather the opposite -- the Mac version got delayed because I wanted to get the iPhone version out first. :-)

Linux version?!

Ok, just wishing. I was trying it on WINE yesterday with some fun results. Going to install a Virtual Machine today to try it out on my new laptop.

Hopefully see you in Portland. Very nice program.

Default Wonderful News

This is wonderful news. I almost bought an iPod Touch the other day. Now I'm sorry I didn't get it. I definitely want to see SmartGo in action at the Congress on your iPhone.

This just might be what I need to push me over the edge on the purchase. I'll be using my Tablet PC to record games again this year, but I very seriously thought about leaving it at home because it is nearly four years old now and slow to work with. When I get back from the Congress it is my plan to install VMWare Fusion on the iMac so I can run the PC version of SmartGo until the Mac version is ready for beta.

Now that SmartGo is available for the iPhone and iPod my only real decision is which to buy and exactly how soon.

Terri

If there was a version available for Linux I would buy this in the blink of an eye -- and would have done so two years ago.
I may end up buying it because it is so good, but am not a big fan of tying myself up to Windows... So I will probably just wait.

I'm not going to the Congress - but I have an iPhone and would love to beta test. If it helps, I have the iPhone development kit, and have both programmed and help debug Go programs.

(Remember the PenPoint OS? I believe we crossed paths back then on a port of your software to that platform...)
