After many days of hard work, i've finally finished my first video project for the Go community. I've added English subtitles to a video of a Chinese professional (Hua Yi Gang 8-dan) commenting on the 6th LG Cup semi-final match between Lee Chang Ho and Cho Hun Hyun, played in 2002.
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7Jh5OnV6lo Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlHizEEGvSE Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_ogU26JGO0 Or if you wish to download it (iPod/iPhone/iPod Touch/PSP compatible): http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...68901422273722 Comments and feedback for the video much appreciated. :-) Its my hope that this will kickstart a fansubbing community for Go videos, similar to the ones we have for anime now. There's a treasure trove of Go videos all over the Internet, just waiting to be translated and brought to an even bigger audience! If you're willing to help, please contact me by sending me a PM here, or looking for me on KGS. Edit: Making one video like this takes me days of work, and its unlikely that I can do it again unless I get some help. Edit 2: Thanks for all the wonderful comments and encouragement! I'm glad that my effort didn't go to waste, and helped other Go enthusiasts advance their knowledge, or at least, their enthusiasm for the game. Please help spread the video to other Go players you know! Last edited by Heretix : 2009-04-04 at 02:31 PM. |

Fantastic work! It was very well done; I would (try) to do the same with Korean VODs, but I know nothing of fansubbing, have very little time as a uni student, and my Korean is far from perfect :/.

Thanks for the interest so far everyone, hope you enjoyed the videos!
Looking at my schedule after the production of this video, its getting very unlikely that i'll find the time to do this again without some help. Right now, it takes me days of work to make a video like this. For this one, I needed to: 1) Sync the audio to the video properly again, as the source was out of sync (and also upside down, hehe). Stitch videos into a single file, prepare the source video in other ways... 2) Prepare the script. 3) Time the subtitles. 5) Watch the video, fix errors and ambiguity, timing problems. 6) Post the video, edit the description. If someone (or many someones :-)) can help out with any of these areas, it'll be much easier to make such videos regularly. I was planning at first to subtitle a video of the 10 Great Myoshus of 2005 (as chosen by Weiqi Tiandi, a major Go magazine from China), and its an excellent video, but I really need help with producing it. |

That's excellent!!!
Hua Yigang 8-dan now is the president of Chinese Chess Center. He is very good at teaching. Thanks to your outstanding work! I have Chinese go videos more than 300G. Some of them are recorded by myself. I can send them to you once you need them. I'm also trying to produce some go videos, I think my videos will meet you in the near future. Making subtitles is a long and niggling job, thanks again. |

Thanks for the compliment! Wow, didn't know that Hua Yigang is the president of the Zhongguo Qiyuan! BTW, you reminded me to stick the "Yi Gang" portion of his name together. :-) Let's work together! Two people making two videos separately is a lot slower than two people making two videos together. :-) |

You all know "Zhongguo Qiyuan", huh? I was worried some people don't understand these words, so I called it "Chinese Chess Center" In Chinese go videos, the best teachers(in my opinion) are Wang Yuan 8p, Hua Yigang 8p and Cheng Xiaoliu 6p. Nie Weiping 9p is extremely good, but he didn't produce much vidoes in these years. Some of the subtitles in your video was running fast; I can't see them clearly (because my English is not so good). I think maybe it's easy to translate a Chinese book into English, but it's hard to translate the videos. The grammar is so much different between Chinese and English(the order of the words). And some words in Chinese is short, in English is very long. So maybe it's hard for the subtitle to fit the picture. So I think what you have done is really a not easy work. And there is a minor problem: "这里夹了一个". "jia" means "夹" not "加". I think to translate it into English, "clamp" is better than "add". |
