Comments & ReviewsA great book for beginners (25-20k) looking for an overview of importa - Written by ramatheson
![]() This book was read by me when I was about 25 Kyu, after having read The Book of Go by William S. Cobb. This book was great, and that was 2 years ago. My girlfriend and I are currently reading it (me for the second time, and her for the first). We both love the "openness" to the pages; there is plenty of breathing room. While each subject is covered in an obviously cursory way, the insight is fantastic to get a quick overview of the basics that will take us to 20 Kyu and beyond. I am currently about 20 Kyu, and she is about 25 Kyu. The writing is friendly, and we both enjoy working through this book together. While it doesn’t delve quite far enough into the subjects, we realized that that is impossible for one book due to the broad nature of the subjects being covered. This is a great first book for the 20-25 Kyu player I would say. Good follow up great begginer book. - Written by MattKyu
I learned alot from this book a very good adition to the learn to play go books. Adequate, but somewhat thin feeling. - Written by LP Jent
![]() I disliked the fact that they removed the end of chapter problems, and made a self test chapter at the end. I think this lowered the usefulness of the chapters. On the other hand, it does test how well you absorb the material. I do like the material presented in the book. As a fairly new beginner, this book was very helpful, and the joseki in the back are interesting to look at, to try to analyze. Granted, I am a beginner, but I feel like the book was quite good for a low kyu player who has no idea what a ‘knights move’ is, or a ‘bamboo joint’. After all, I had seen these things, heard them mentioned, and never known what precisely they were. Quite a good study reference for beginners. Not useful for upper kyu students at all, however, and fairly introductory. Not a stand alone volume by any stretch of the imagination. LP Excellent beginner book - Written by Codexus
![]() When I started go I ordered the "Learn to play go" series on amazon. By the time they arrived, I had already outgrown the first volume by reading basic tutorials on the internet. But volume 2 continued with exactly what I needed to learn. A disappointing sequel - Written by ChiyoDad
![]() After having enjoyed Volume 1 of this series, I acquired Volume 2. After reading it, I was underwhelmed and disappointed.
