This volume presents over three hundred Tesujis examples and problems, aimed at training the reader to spot the right play in all sorts of tactical situations. ![]() The systematic approach presented in the introduction on how to read out situations on a go board were extremely helpful. As pointed out by other reviews, once you know the rules of go, this book is very useful. This book is quite helpful... - Written by Ninito
![]() This book helped me alot when i was in the ddk and high sdk level of play. Helped me to see, find, and play out great tesujis. Essential. - Written by Tartuffe
![]() I brought this book on a car trip as a KGS 11k and read it twice. I came back a KGS 7k. Extremely useful Book! - Written by Nate
![]() While I haven’t quite finished this book, I’ve already used tesuji from the first 25 pages in each of my last two games. I think I’m qualified to claim that this book will have great impact on my game. I simply wish I would have read it when I was about 2-4 stones weaker! Tagline: Tesuji, don’t fight without it! The general methodology of this book is to demonstrate the simple case of a tesuji, give problems that allow you to apply it in progressively more complicated situations. I find this method to be perfect for understanding tesuji… I recommended for approximately 15kyu to maybe 7 kyu. best book in the series - Written by funkyj
![]() This was one of the first books I read when I was learning Go. Many of the problems were too hard but I found this book more accessible than Life and Death (vol. 4). As a beginner I was consistently able to solve the easier problems in each section (using a board). This is a book you can work through many times. Tesuji intoxication - Written by kex
This book is extremely useful. I attribute it my rapid rise from 20k to 10k. The problems are difficult, and reading and solving them requires some time (it took perhaps 3months for me), but the results will be noteworthy. As a warning – I started to see tesuji in all moves and lost any long term thinking for a while, but time cures… Stays useful - Written by Shaydwyrm
![]() This was one of the first go books that I read. Initially I found mainly the text useful, since I quickly started seeing the moves it showed in my own games. The problems, however, were somewhat too difficult for my level of reading at the time. Later on though, I found myself coming back to this book (and Life & Death), and each time I would be able to solve more of the problems that had given me difficulty before. I would recommend that weaker players still pick up this book to start developing their “tesuji sense”, and don’t worry too much about solving all the problems (try not to look at the solutions though!). Later on you will be able to come back to and get lots of extra value from this excellent book. Good book, but a bit too hard - Written by Hicham
![]() This is a good book, but I found it quite hard. I read it when I was 6k EGF and tried several times before that, but I used to get put off by the problems. The book did help my game and gave me a good basic understanding of tesuji. I did all the problems three times in two months and that definetely helped me see more tesuji in my game. The problem is that the whole Elementary Go series is that they are more advanced then they pretend to be. I think the target level of this book is 10k-4kyu. But a lot of “weaker” players seem to love this book though,so … Tesuji and Life & Death: top books! - Written by ca.sch

![]() The intro to this book is an excellent explaination on what “reading” is all about. I read this book at about 12-kyu (AGA) and I attribute it for 90% of my trip to 8-kyu. It might not have directly increased my rank by four stones, but it taught me how to read which did break me through the first “wall.” The tesuji included are also very useful. They’re basic tesuji, but they form the foundation for future tesuji study. First non-beginner book you should read - Written by DrStraw
