Go For Beginners, Kaoru IwamotoGo, an ancient, subtly beautiful game of territory, is the oldest game in the world still played in its original form. Comments & Reviewsmy first and still my (second) favorite - Written by Andd
![]() I read this book when i got me first Goban and i knew a few of the rules. I was thoroughly addicted the second I touched the board. This I basically tore this book apart. In three days it was pretty worn, most pages were bent (from me making references) and I annotated it to death. I love my copy and still look back to see the notes I made and laugh "sente good, gote bad’ Great for Motivated Beginners - Written by patrickb314
![]() I learned from this book, and it’s a great first book to learn from, with lots of great information about all sorts of useful things for beginners and after your first few games. If you want an in-depth intro to the game, it’s great. On the other hand, it is pretty dense. It’s not, as such, a gentle introduction to the game and rules like, for example the first Janice Kim book is. Some people do better with gentler introductions on just the rule, while others, generally more determined, generally competitive folks, like Go for Beginners better. And of course, both this book and Kim’s and some others are much better than older introductory material like the horrid Lasker book. Ya gotta love this little gem! - Written by anton
![]() Because my name is listed as the contact for the Syracuse University Go Club in the appendix! That was around 1976. Cool. But aside from that, this really is an excellent book for beginners. It’s concise, easy to follow, and doesn’t try to pack in too many higher level tactics and strategies. It also fits nicely into coat pocket. And if you want to know where they were playing go back in the 70s, just read through that list of Go clubs in the back of the book. Some of them are still going strong, albeit, with different contact people. The Syracuse University Go Club has moved off campus to become the Syracuse Go Club. ![]() hey i’m new here and don’t know how to get this book…can someone help me? Great for a first book - Written by Don
![]() It was a great read, but was not quite as helpful as I had hoped for because I had already read an introductory book. That being said, I’ll be reading the second half of the book again after I’ve got a bit more experience under my belt. There were many parts where I could tell his instruction had more depth than my skill level could absorb. My favorite beginner's book - Written by Gringo
![]() All beginning Go players should read this book. It was my first Go book and learned me a lot right from the beginning. It’s easy, but interesting enough to read through several times. Have read it many times... - Written by kiseki
![]() I’ve read a few beginner books, and this is the best of them. It gets your feet wet in most of the main topics, without overwhelming you, and yet I got stuff out of it when I went back and read it after I was past the beginner phase Similar to "Go For Beginners"Graded Go Problems for Beginners Vol.4: Advanced Problems (15-kyu and stronger) YMI 1/3'' Kaya Veneer Beginners Go Board 13x13 9x9 Reversible Graded Go Problems for Beginners Vol.1: Introductory Problems (30-kyu to 25-kyu) Graded Go Problems for Beginners Vol.2: Elementary Problems (25-kyu to 20-kyu) |
