Get Strong at the Opening, Get Strong at Go Series, Vol.1, Richard BozulichThe opening is the most enjoyable part of the game to study and to play. You do not have to memorize hundreds of variations as you do in joseki or read out countless possibilities as in a life-and-death situation or in a middle-game fight. You also do not have to make precise calculations as in the endgame. This is all hard and exhausting work. In the opening, precise calculations are impossible, even for the strongest players. What is required is intuition based on good judgement. Within this constraint, you are free to use your creativity to plan your strategy. Comments & ReviewsUnique book to teach specific openings - Written by ilan
The first half of the book is great because it teaches you, step by step, four different opening systems and the ideas behind them. The second half is essentially similar to the book 501 Opening Problems and is more about making key moves in various opening positions which do not necessarily come from standard opening patterns. Good book - Written by kiseki
