Dictionary of Basic Shapes (행마 신사전), UnknownSee Robert Jasiek’s page for a description and review. Comments & ReviewsFundamental Haengma book - Written by snorri
![]() I have to disagree with ChiyoDad. One of the things that’s not covered very well in books currently translated into English is basic shapes. Yes, if you don’t read Korean you’ll have to draw some of your own conclusions, but this is not hard and the shapes are very simple. I got considerable benefit from this book when I was about 15kyu. Emphasis is placed on the most basic haengma such as the nobi and kosumi, and when they are good. Knowing when to play these "slow-looking" moves is the key to thick play. Probably best left to dans - Written by ChiyoDad
![]() There’s some interesting and current material in this dictionary. Unfortunately, if you cannot read Korean, it will be difficult to get the most out of it. Many of the basic shapes are more than a handful of moves deep in their structure. If you are a very experienced player, likely a dan, you will probably recognize more of these and be able to glean the ideas just by reviewing the diagrams. I could not see this book being recommended to any single-digit or double-digit kyu who cannot read Korean.
