Brilliancies from Go Classics - Gokyo Shumyo, Hayashi GenbiHayashi Genbi
This is the Chinese print of this famous Go classic first published in 1811. It is a reference of 520 standard Go problems containing basic life and death shapes that commonly arise in game situations. Although almost 200 years old, this Go classic is invaluable for making your Go game stronger. The tsumego diagrams are easy to follow and the Chinese text is minimal and not necessary for enjoying this book. We have included a translation sheet for key Go terms so that you can follow along without any prior knowledge of Chinese. Comments & ReviewsEssential - Written by gowan
![]() For almost 200 years this has been the essential training book in tsumego (life-and-death and tesuji problems). Compiled by the Japanese master Hayashi Gembi in the early 19th century, it has been the almost universal recommendation for study by Japanese pros. If you really know what’s in this book your life-and-death problem skills will be at dan level. This particular book is a Chinese translation of the original Japanese "Gokyo Shumyo", part of the CHinese set "World Weiqi Masterpieces of Life and Death". Quality depends on the editting from the original Japanese, and I have no idea who produced this edition. The problems (and solutions) from this book are available free online from http://www.u-go.net/classic/ and there is an ongoing study of the problems on Sensei’s Library.
