![]() Even considering that only 3-4 point jungsuk are being covered, this book isn’t (and doesn’t claim to be) comprehensive. However, I praise it for going into more depth into certain complicated variations than Ishida and for being more current. great layout - Written by Tommie
I have not yet completed reading this book. Yet I like the stunning layout and display of the diagrams with slightly thicker edge lines. The overview of contents comprising small position diagrams is a feature which seems to become more frequent nowadys and is still very appreciated by me – as it greatly enhances user value of the book. The comments are presented in a didactically logical manner and I simply enjoy ‘reading’ the book (without board). The chosen josekis are recent ones (AFAIK). Not being a native English speaker I neither noticed nor minded any translation peculiarities. A pleasant read. - Written by sol.ch
![]() The book discusses jungsuk/joseki in primary sequences, and then analyzes it with deeper variations in secondary sequences, which show you how to handle the situation if the joseki gets misplayed and how to take advantage of the situation, why certain moves in jungsuk are played in modern Go and why some moves are just archaic and rarely seen in modern games, and the meaning behind the moves as well. Of course, the only problem I had with this book was the translation and poor editing. Not just the grammar either. But it is not to the point where it would cause too much confusion. Overall, this is a great book for learning joseki, and though not as in-dept as Ishida’s dictionaries, is a very brief and pleasant dictionary on the 3-4 point that is sure to expand your joseki knowledge. Also, the book itself seems easier to read as compared to Ishida’s, with bigger and more vivid diagrams, text font, and clear-cut comments. The book is refreshing and easy to read and going through it will leave you with a pleasant feeling that you’re studying jungsuk/joseki properly. And yes, definitely better than Kogo’s.
