LP Jent's BioShow | HideLP Jent's BlogShow | Hide50 loses - posted on Sat Mar 24 16:10:29 EDT 2007 I'm back home stateside, and that means I get my internet fully operational, and with it, KGS. And I'm trying to lose my first fiftey games as swiftly as possible it seems. Playing real time is, as has been comented, very different from playing in email, for instance, or on the forum. Wheras before, I had a night, or at least an hour or so, to concider each move, its repurcusions, and its influences, time as I waited for the next move to play seqyuence after sequence in my head, time as I lay trying to sleep to replay each corner, and rotate the board around, looking for more. And more importantly, it was easy to stop, and wonder, "Is it time to tennuki?" when I had an hour or two, or at least 10-20 minutes, between each move. Thus, when I got on KGS, I discovered, I do not know pacing and slowness as well as I thought. If I am not careful, I rush like a blind man through sequences, making hasty overplays, unecessary moves, and attacking what I should be defending... So, when playing real time, I am much worse than when I concider each move for an hour. This is expected, and easily accepted. And I was playing a quick game with Phantom, before their work, and I tried some crazy, (read suicidal) stuff. It didn't work, and that didn't bother me. And I looked back at my last several games, and while the fact that I was playing far below my potential bothered me, I also found an interesting fact.. in all my games, I try.. crazy stuff. Stuff that usually ends up losing the game for me, though on ocassion, stuff that works. If I were to stop trying weird stuff, I'd probably gain a great deal of strength, but at the same time, I don't think I'd get nearly as much out of the games. In the games I've already played, I learned some stuff that did and didn't work, and why, and learned a little bit more about various opening strategies, and how I respond to them. (I much prefer to be influence oriented, than to let others have center influence. I should learn better ways to counter it, better invasions.) So, in short, I'm dashing down my road to fiftey losses, and trying as many crazy, stupid ideas as I can along the way. After all, what fun is playing, if you always play it safe?
